QLD Border Pass System Changes
QLD Border Pass System Changes
Information from the Queensland Government
From Tuesday 10 October:
The Queensland Government has announced imminent changes to the online QLD border pass declaration system.
These changes are due to be implemented from today, however they have not yet been put in place at the time of sending this update. Keep an eye on the official website for more information.
If you don’t already have one and require a border pass for travel into Queensland within the next few days, you should apply as soon as possible using the current system. These passes will continue to be accepted even after the new system is live, provided they have not expired.
Please feel free to send this update on to anyone it may be relevant to. It will also be published on the Toolbox for reference.
From later today, a new online system will be in place intended to help streamline processing at border checkpoints.
What you need to know:
> The new system will operate online in a similar fashion to the previous one, but instead it will automatically choose the relevant pass for you based on the responses you provide to the questionnaire.
> Additionally, the new system will require you to upload supporting documents for your application – these may include proof of identity or address and will depend on what kind of pass you need. This will replace the need for checking of these documents at the border, though you should still carry hard copies to account for any technical issues that may occur.
> Processing of applications may take up to 3 business days – so remember to apply at least 3 days before you plan to travel.
> Anyone wanting to cross the border into Queensland needs a valid border pass. You do not need a pass when crossing the border to leave Queensland. > If you already have a valid pass when the new system comes in, you don’t need to re-apply. Valid passes will continue to be honoured until they expire.
Anyone who wishes to enter Queensland (by road, air or other means) must be carrying a valid border pass.
To apply for a pass, head to: https://www.qld.gov.au/border-pass
Once the new system is live, you will need to fill in a questionnaire to apply for a pass. This questionnaire will automatically determine which pass you need.
You will also need to upload any requested documentation, such as your driver’s licence.
From there, you will need to wait up to 3 days for your application to be processed. This means you need to apply at least 3 days in advance of travel. Once verified, you will receive the relevant pass and you will be allowed to enter the state provided you are carrying the pass.
